LAND O'LAKES — While the stores are swamped this weekend with shoppers vying for cheap big-screen TVs, a nonprofit group will be collecting items to sell a week later for charity.
Candlewood Community Church, which meets each week at Pine View Middle School, will sell the donated items at its "Community Christmas Store" from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dec. 4 at the Land O'Lakes Community Center, 5401 Land O'Lakes Blvd.
Proceeds will benefit Pine View Middle School and Oasis — A Pregnancy Care Center on U.S. 41. Oasis is a faith-based center that offers aid to women with unplanned pregnancies. The program offers parenting classes, Bible study and counseling. Women also may earn baby gear by participating.
Volunteers will accept new and gently used items from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at the LOL Transport and Moving donation trailer at Hungry Harry's Famous Bar-B-Que on U.S. 41. Items also may be dropped off at the crisis pregnancy center at 3632 Land O'Lakes Blvd., Suite 108.
Cash donations also will be accepted. In-kind donors may also receive a receipt for tax purposes.
People may also volunteer at the event to earn gifts.
In addition to the pregnancy center, Hungry Harry's and LOL Transport, sponsors include Space Box, NuVista Foods, A Cup of Organic, Chariot of the Dogs, Dynamic Heating and Cooling and Myrtle Lake Baptist Church.
