An overnight power outage at the FAA's Jacksonville Air Route Traffic Control Center is causing flight delays at Tampa International and other airports on the East Coast.

TIA had to cancel six flights Tuesday morning, and flights are currently delayed for between 15 minutes and an hour, said spokeswoman Christine Osborn.

Osborn advises travelers and their families to check the status of their flight online before leaving for the airport.

"We do expect it to be straightened out as the day progresses, it can just take a while," she said.

The control center handles all high-altitude traffic over the Gulf Coast, North Florida, southern Georgia and South Carolina.
